Where does the data come from?
Prices come from the French Ministry for the Ecological Transition - DGEC. The data covers the period from 03 January 2020 to 16 October 2026, with weekly observations.
These are national averages for mainland France, excluding Corsica. The data doesn't cover overseas territories or regional variations.

How is the price breakdown calculated?
The tax-inclusive price of each fuel has three components:
- The pre-tax price, which depends on oil prices and distribution margins
- The energy excise duty (TICPE), a fixed tax per litre
- The 20% VAT, applied to both the pre-tax price and TICPE
To understand the breakdown in more detail, read my analysis "Why filling up costs so much in France".
Note: This tool is for information only. It assumes 20% VAT throughout the period. The TICPE rates shown are national reference rates. Always check current rates on the official website.
