Chance, mentalism and a podcast

Chance, mentalism and a podcast

Picture the scene:

I’m going to a mentalism show. My wife booked the tickets.

When the mentalist walks on stage, I don’t recognise his face. I recognise HIS VOICE.

It turns out I’ve been listening to Taha Mansour’s podcast for months.

What a coincidence. And what a surprise...

The show is brilliant. I even get to experience his powers first-hand. They’re incredible.

One thing I haven’t mentioned: Taha’s knowledge is particularly interesting from a trading perspective.

He’s:

  • An expert in cognitive psychology
  • A hypnotist
  • A mentalist

It’s now early July. I’m listening to one of his episodes, "Changing your habits easily", when something clicks:

Why not invite him to discuss psychology and trading?

It’s a subject I’m fascinated by, and I’m sure my subscribers would like to hear an expert’s view.

I send Taha an invitation. He says yes.

On 25 September, I head to Paris to record the podcast with Taha.

What follows is two hours of conversation about psychology and trading.

Taha Mansour and Bobby recording the podcast

The podcast is now out on my YouTube channel.

Now that I’ve shared the news, let me tell you what I learned from all this.

Because, as a reminder, this newsletter isn’t just here for me to tell you about my life. It’s here to share useful lessons.

Fair warning: my inner personal development coach may take over for the next few paragraphs.

Lesson 1: sometimes chance gets it right

I started streaming my trading sessions and creating content online because I felt very lonely.

At first, it was a selfish act to help myself feel better.

Over time, though, I discovered that the content was helping a lot of people.

That gave me a real reason to keep doing it as well as I could.

Lesson 2: hard work pays off

It sounds painfully cheesy, but hard work pays off.

Learning a skill, whether it’s trading or content creation, takes patience and effort.

Results don’t come quickly.

You need to repeat the right actions over time for the benefits to compound.

That was actually the subject of last week’s newsletter, so I won’t go over it again.

Lesson 3: if you don’t ask, you don’t get

I don’t know about you, but things have never just come to me without asking.

If you wait for opportunities to land in your lap, they probably won’t.

The lesson I took away: give fate a push and dare to ask.

That’s what happened with Taha.

I dared to ask him to record a podcast, something I’d never done before, and it went really well.

Lesson 4: psychology in trading

You’ll find the lessons on psychology and trading in the podcast.

We covered:

  • How to stay motivated in your trading
  • How to understand yourself better to trade better
  • How to manage and control different emotions
  • And plenty of other interesting subjects

P.S. Trust me, it’s worth it...
